Why are “Listed” Signs Critical to You?
Virtually all cities—and the State of Texas—adopt the National Electrical Code (NEC) as law.
The NEC requires electrical signs to be Listed (tested and labeled with an approved listing mark) for structural, electrical, and installation safety.
OSHA recognizes which U.S. testing bodies can certify to the required standards. For you, a listing mark is insurance: an independent confirmation that the sign is safe and properly installable.
Will your sign be approved for wet (outdoor) locations? Not if it isn’t Listed.
If the sign you’re purchasing lacks an ETL or UL listing label, it is probably not legal to install anywhere in Texas. There are a few city-specific exceptions.
Buy carefully.
